These 55 original sonnets also weave in topics of mythology, psychology, and the politics of power in relationships. However, there are 4 sonnets that directly address contemporary politicians of the nation state. For many do indeed lead the public in a not so merry dance. The author loved performing poetry when competing in poetry and drama festivals and very much enjoyed Sylvia Plath poetry. Later she commenced writing free form poetry. However, it was during her time at Deakin University in 2013 that the author explored other poets, and appreciated the musical beat that the sonnet form provides, when written in iambic pentameter. She liked the structure of sections, as well as the rhythm and rhyming conventions. Shakespeare’s sonnets, along with the contemporary sonnets of Edna St. Vincent Millay were explored, and also the history of the Italian Petrarchan sonnet. Jeanette enjoyed writing in the sonnet form and received a High Distinction for her submission of sonnets, as part of the Masters of Arts (Writing and Literature). She has a passion to write in the sonnet form to express creativity, emotions, and philosophical viewpoints.
